norton support How do I solve the Norton Antivirus update problems?

  1. Disable Windows Defender
  2. Run Norton as administrator
  3. Reinstall Norton with the Delete and Reinstall tool
  4. Update Windows

1: Disable Windows Defender
When talking about third-party antivirus solutions that cause problems in Windows 10, Norton Antivirus is often mentioned. We can not say why the likes of Norton and McAfee are going through such a difficult time in Windows 10, but, apparently, they are. Now, this does not mean that Norton will not work on Windows 10, but simply states that you may have to make some adjustments.

In this case (and many others), problems arise due to the conflict between the built-in Windows Defender and the Norton Antivirus suite. Windows Defender should be disabled automatically after installation, but each major update can change the configuration. Basically, if both antimalware solutions work at the same time, one or the other will not work as expected. Leading to problems such as update failures.

To avoid this, we suggest disabling Windows Defender and trying to update your system again. This is what you need to do:

In the Windows search bar, type regedit and open regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows Defender. You can copy and paste the path in the address bar of the Registry Editor.
Double-click DisableAntiSpyware DWORD and enter 1 as the value.
If there is no DisableAntiSpyware DWORD, right click on the empty area and select New DWORD 32 Value. Name DWORD DisableAntiSpyware, save it and set its value in 1.norton antivirus does not update
Close the Registry Editor and restart your PC.
2: Run Norton as administrator
Also, due to reports of performance issues in Windows 10, it is better to run Norton with administrative permissions. The limitations imposed on Norton can be avoided later. Of course, you will need administrative access to your PC to grant these permissions.

Choose the Compatibility tab.
Check the box “Run this program as administrator” and confirm the changes. The Norton antivirus is not updated
3: reinstall Norton with the remove and reinstall tool
If the previous steps were not enough, we are inclined to suggest a full reinstallation of Norton Antivirus. Especially if the update problems appeared after a major update or system update in an earlier iteration of Windows. In addition, it will not be enough to eliminate the program with only a usual approach. You will have to use the tool provided by the developer called Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool.

Here’s how to run it in Windows 10:

Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool tool here.
Hold down the Shift key and click Restart to restart your PC in the Advanced menu.
Select Troubleshoot and then Advanced options.
Click Start Settings and then Restart.
Choose Safe Mode or Safe Mode in the following screen.
Run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool.
Navigate to C: Program Files (or 86x Program Files) and delete the Norton folder.
Restart your PC and download the latest Norton iteration, here.
Install it, enter your credentials and look for improvements with the update.
4: Update Windows
Finally, you can wait for the developer to resolve the possible server crash. While you wait, you will not make any mistakes when updating Windows 10. Some problems were addressed by applying the cumulative patches that Microsoft provided. After that, we can hardly suggest anything other than contacting the support and providing them with the necessary records so that they can handle their problem internally.
